The Diana Award is delighted to offer a brand new programme to schools, funded by the Government Equalities Office (GEO), which aims to promote LGBT+ inclusion and tackle Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic attitudes and behaviours.

The Anti-HBT Ambassadors Programme will empower young people in primary and secondary schools in London and the West Midlands with the skills, tools, confidence and knowledge they need to significantly transform their school culture and provide support to their peers.

Eligibility for the ANTI-HBT AMBASSADOR programme_

The Anti-HBT Ambassadors Programme is offered free of charge to schools. In order to be eligible for the programme, you must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Primary or Secondary school

  • Located within London or the West Midlands

  • Your school has not previously taken part in any of the Government-funded anti-homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying programmes which ran between 2016 and 2019

  • Your school does not already have any specific policies and monitoring procedures in place for tackling and preventing homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying

  • Your school is interested in creating an LGBT-inclusive school environment and curriculum


Whole school 

In taking a whole-school approach to embedding the programme, we will encourage schools to focus on inclusivity: schools will be given an audit tool for assessing levels of inclusivity before and after the Anti-HBT Programme in order to highlight areas of potential need for development around policies, training and school environment and to benchmark your school’s progress.


Peer to Peer Support 

We will work with your students to help them develop campaigns that celebrate diversity within the student body, run activities to promote inclusivity and tackle homophobic, biphobic or transphobic attitudes and behaviour. The training will give students the opportunity to develop their peer support skills and confidence.


Policies and Reporting

We will work with you and your Ambassadors to embed policies and reporting processes which fit your school’s individual context and needs. Through the staff training, we will help your staff body to feel confident to identify bullying and the different types, have conversations with pupils around the use of inappropriate language and how they can contribute to a more inclusive school environment.


We support your school on a guided journey of ongoing change, supported throughout the academic year by The Diana Award, which will enable your school to embed an ethos of inclusivity, tolerance and respect.

If selected to participate, your school will work with The Diana Award and receive the following:

  • Audit tool which you will be asked to complete to benchmark your progress

  • 1 x full day Ambassadors training (6 hrs) for 15-20 students

  • 3 hours of staff training to engage a wide selection of the staff body

  • Support to develop an action plan to embed positive changes that are sustainable and deliver long-term impact

  • Tailored resources and content such as lesson plans, classroom activities and curriculum adaptations

  • Regular Aftercare support and check-ins throughout the academic year

Rainbow Ambassadors - Primary student training

Primary Ambassadors will receive a days training which will focus on giving young people the skills, tools, confidence and knowledge to identify and tackle bullying, support a peer and with an emphasis on respecting difference and inclusivity. We’ll be looking at celebrating our differences, gender stereotypes, and different families which will be delivered in a fun and engaging way!


Anti-HBT Ambassadors - Secondary student training

Secondary schools will receive training that gives young people, the skills, tools and knowledge to identify and tackle HBT bullying with a focus on the language and abusive behaviours students may experience in school, in the community and online.
